Website: Rock City

Click here for a great article.

Location: 2675 Mt. Diablo Scenic Boulevard, Blackhawk, Danville, 94506

Hours: Gates open 8:00am and close at sunset. Visitors should plan to be in their vehicles by sunset and headed out to avoid being locked in.

Fees: Parking/day use fee: $10 pay at ranger station, South Gate entrance.

About: Located off of South Gate Road approximately one mile north of South Gate Kiosk. Features include the Wind Caves, Elephant Rock, Sentinel Rock, Artist Point and Fossil Ridge. Native American grinding rocks are located near Grotto. A great place to picnic.

How to get there: Take Highway 24 to Walnut Creek (stay right) and Interstate 680 south. Go south on 680 and drive 7.2 miles to Danville and the exit for Diablo Road. Take Diablo Road east for 2.9 miles (at 0.7 of a mile, you jog right to stay on Diablo Road) to Mount Diablo Scenic Boulevard. Turn left and go 3.8 miles (becomes South Gate Road) to the kiosk at the park entrance. Continue 0.8 of a mile to Live Oak Campground and park at the adjacent picnic area. Trailhead is behind campsite 20. Click here for map.

+ Our group met here for a couple of terrific meet-ups. The kids love it! They climb, run and enjoy the fun and challenging atmosphere. We also did a painted rocks art project (ones we brought from home) to take home.
